Family & Community: Parent Letter > Parent Info Form > My Web Pages January 21, 1999 Dear Students and Parents, We have been working on a special computer based project in class. The purpose of the project was to provide a review of important concepts in geography combined with their Alaska studies while enhancing computer skills. In addition, the objective of the lesson was to incorporate the five themes of geography that we have been learning about over the past semester and applying those themes to familiar examples found in Anchorage. The class has been given five full class-periods to design their plans on paper prior to actually creating their presentation on the computer. Many students have already completed the first phase of the assignment and have started work on the computers. Unfortunately, there are students who have chosen to use their time unwisely and have not completed the planning phase. Therefore, these students will not have the time to complete the assignment in class using the computer. It is regrettable that these students will miss out on a valuable learning opportunity. However, students can salvage their grade for the project by completing the assignment on paper. The requirements are listed below. 1. Project can be displayed on 5x7 note cards, plain paper, or on poster paper. 2. A title card must display: Title of project, Name, Five Themes of Geography. 3. Five theme cards: must contain pictures (may be hand drawn or cut out from a magazine), navigational buttons, and chosen colors as if they were completed on the computer. 4. Due Date: Tuesday, January 26. Example of planned HyperStudio Card: One card for each of the five themes. (Movement, Region, Location, Interaction, Place)
