Curriculum Unit: East Asia
Lesson 3: Physical Geography of Asia Word-Find
Duration: 1 Day

Overview/Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to continue the exploration of the geography of East Asia.

Goals: Through selected learning materials, students will:

  1. Explore and understand the physical, political, and historical geography of selected countries and regions.

Objectives:

  1. Use basic geographic terms to describe the physical characteristics of the earth.
  2. Understand the natural processes that are part of the global systems, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, climate, and weather.
  3. Recognize that regional boundaries change as criteria are changed.

Procedure/Activity:

  1. After daily brainstarter and attendance, a lecture will be given on the major geographic features of East Asia stressing China's geography.
  2. Students will take out paper and pencil: Otherwise desk should be clear.
  3. Students will be required to take notes during lecture.
  4. Assignment: Asia Geography Word-Find puzzle will be distributed to the class.
  5. Students are to answer the questions which are clues to the words found in the puzzle. They should use their notes and textbook to complete the worksheet.
  6. The remaining class period will be used to work on puzzle, if students are not finished theyare to complete puzzle as homework. (Due beginning of next class).

Materials:
Puzzle worksheet

Assessment: Puzzles will be graded for accuracy of answers to questions. Used as a check for comprehension of lecture (20pts)

Problems Noted: Students who are abscent may use textbook to find answers. Make-ups are due within 1 day of return.
